If you've not seen the switch 2 starfox trailer, please, let me do you a favor. This link takes you to youtube to see the announcment for aprox 16min.

Now, I know what you're thinking.... "Wolf, that was amazing!", and you'd be right about that ^_^ This has got me feeling nostalgic in the best of ways, so i've been meeting that energy with even more starfox!

I've beat Starfox 64 countless times and beat Zero once before on the Wii U, so I figured it was time to tackle those again and the remainder. Here are my feelings on each as I go through them all back to back in anticipation of the new one ^_^ (That one will be added here too)

Starfox - SNES - Complete

I'd never played too much starfox on the snes, but i'd tried the first level on many occasions. Finally played through it for this review. Safe to say that this one can be skipped. Starfox 64 is just the upgraded version, though there were some neat walking ship functions that got left out until later.

Starfox 2 - SNES - Complete

Played this for the first time. It wasn't a bad game but was a much different appraoch. Kinda tactical overhead to stop missles from hitting corneria and super short missions to shoot a batch of enemies or a missle plus a few enemies. Not interested in another playthrough, but neat. Also cool to see extra characters.

Starfox 64 - N64 - Complete

Starfox 64 is a legendary title for me. I grew up playing this title on the 64 and i've replayed it a bunch over the years. Even now, this game stands the test of time, it's just a good game with fun cheesy dialogue. The voice lines are built into my lexicon. "Can't let you do that, Starfox!", "Andross has ordered us to take you down.", "Peppy, Long time no see", "Andross's enemy is My enemy.", "Just what I need to see, StarWolf."

Starfox Adventures - GC - In Queue

In Progress....

Starfox Assault - GC - Complete

Early on when playing this title, I was amazed at the upgrades from 64. I didn't know about this title until well after the game cube window, so I wasn't aware at how much nice stuff Assault got. That said, the polish is totally different and the writing is pretty rough as they try to take themselves more seriously in this itteration. Awesome to see more from team starwolf and just a different direction while retaining some of the key gameplay.

Starfox Command - DS - In Queue

In Progress....

Starfox 64 3D - 3DS - Complete

This was a good 3D redo for the game, but a few things felt a little sour to me. 1. They replaced the original voice acting and many of the lines, the things i'd been quoting in my skull for the last 20 years has cracked into weird alt reality. 2. The Barrel Roll animation is a more natural circle, rather than following the arwing as accurately. I know that's a dumb one, but it's a glaring detail every time I barrel roll, so no thanks. GG, but i'll take 64.

Starfox Zero - Wii U - Complete

I played this at launch, after re beating it now, I walked away with the exact same experience. "I know the motion controlls are rough, i'll go in with a fresh mind." - "Well.... these are iritating, but i'm getting the hang of it". "I have to blind myself / turn very inconveniently / other misc steering / aiming issues that repeatedly got me killed often enough that I was getting pretty fed up. By the end, I was just ready to be done; and when I was, I was relieved. This game should never have required the motion control, but it was a product of the times. When the Wii U got major titles, it often tried to find ways to utalize the Wii U's double screen feature with your controller hand. They built Starfox Zero with that in mind, so even had they removed the motion controls, the game wouldn't have worked right without additional tweaks. It was a dedicated fault line. Things like that make me think we may not see a re-release of that game in the future, but who knows. Visually, this was a beautiful game and it played great except for the motion. The birdy form was awesome ^_^

Starfox Guard - Wii U - Complete enough.

Starfox Guard was a tower defense minigame packed with Starfox Zero on a second disc. You play as Slippy and use the Wii U gamepad to tap on different cameras around the map. Using the TV, you monitor those cameras and see when robots were on their way to invade the base. You then shoot them from the active camera. This game had a progression system to unlock additional defenses against the bots. I only played around 10ish levels and I recognize that includes tutorial pacing, but I felt like the early progression was already way too slow. This has potential, but I'm ready to put away the Wii U again. 2 Screens stress me out in that fashion.
